Questions We Get a Lot
Most of our rooftop tents require a roof rack rated for a dynamic load of at least 165 lbs — dynamic meaning while the vehicle is in motion. Always verify your specific rack manufacturer's dynamic load rating before mounting. When stationary and sleeping, the static load capacity is typically much higher, but the dynamic rating is the critical number for safe driving.
Our hard-shell pop-up designs are engineered for fast deployment — most setups take 60 seconds or less once you've done it a couple of times. The clamshell or pop-up mechanism lifts the shell and expands the sleeping platform in one motion, so you spend less time setting up camp and more time enjoying it.
Our rooftop tents are compatible with most vehicles equipped with a crossbar-style roof rack, including mid-size and full-size SUVs, trucks, and campervans. Each product listing includes mounting width requirements and weight specs — we recommend cross-referencing those with your rack's crossbar spread before purchasing. If you're unsure, reach out and we'll help you find the right fit.
We offer a 30-day easy return window on rooftop tents, so you have time to verify fitment and test the setup. Items must be returned in original condition and packaging. If something isn't right, our team will guide you through the process — no unnecessary hoops.
About Our Rooftop Tents
At Overland Off-road and 4X4 Outfitters, our rooftop tent collection is built around one idea: your camp should be ready before the sun goes down. Each tent in this lineup features a hard-shell construction — typically using durable aluminum frames and tough Oxford shell materials like 420D — that protects against rain, wind, and rough terrain. The pop-up designs mount to standard roof racks on SUVs, trucks, and vans, and comfortably sleep 2 to 3 people on a high-density foam mattress elevated off the ground. Several models are also solar panel ready, pairing seamlessly with our portable solar panel collection for true off-grid capability. Whether you're running forest roads on a weekend or planning a multi-week overland route, these tents are designed to handle the conditions you'll actually encounter out there.
